Filled with Christmas spirits, four of us decided to take on the Trailwalker challenge across the South Downs.

Moi, a fellow OS (Patrick Mayhew), an Amplefordian and a Scot from Fettes

“Trailwalker is one of the world's toughest charity events”

The Challenge is to complete the 100km trail across the South Downs in teams of 4.

Trailwalker was originally started by the Queens Gurkha Signals Regiment over 30 years ago as a training exercise to test soldiers’ stamina and teamwork skills.

This is a non-stop event that will require walking up and down the South Downs for a considerable length of time (including through the night). The average time taken last year was 25 hours. Teams are asked to stop if falling behind the maximum allowable time of 30 hours.

We are raising money for Oxfam (who organise Trailwalker) and the Gurkha Welfare Trust - which cares for ex-Gurkhas and their families. The Gurkhas are also an integral part of the day.

The challenge takes place on July 14th 2012

Music of Great Beauty

Unable to sleep yet again, I decided to have an evening of music that goes a little deeper than the "nice tune" variety. Sometimes I think that a restorative needs to be applied to the soul (however you define it) in the form of glorious or moving music.

I'm still awake but took great solace once again from the piece below.

Unlike me,I shouldn't listen to the whole of it unless you have Latin homework to mark or need an extended period alone in the cellar with a bottle of "Chateau de Chasselas". What music do you like to hear in these situations ?

What has happened to the Sport thread??!!

In recent weeks, we've had all kinds of sporting heroics which have been totally ignored by the Forum members.

O'Sullivan has just won his 4th world snooker title and although I don't follow football the end of season shootout looks very exciting with 2 teams both with the same number of points with one game to go. I can't be blamed because I was without a computer for quite a while but....where have all the sports fans gone??

The Olympics

Missiles stationed on residential roof for Olympics

I thought killing the bad guys in Iran and Afghanistan was supposed to a reduce the likely hood of terrorism.

Why spend all that money killing the bad guys and then find their are more bad guys that need killing.

I support the Olympics in the sense that it allows for a whole lot of narcissistic compulsive obsessives "atheletes" perform and for the people that make a motza out of organising the Olympics, the general public who pay for these extravaganzas being too stupid to realise what a con it is.

It probably gave Tony Blair a bit of a boost in the polls, so I can see this as another advantage.

I am not saying their have not been successes, we have mananged to kill and torture some bad guys and kill an even greater number of women and children who may have produced or grown up to be terrorist, not intentionally of course they just happened to be in the way which realistically was their fault.

I also realise that if you are stupid enough to join the army you are at risk of being maimed or killed because of a politicians wimp as to what crusade to join.

The Olympics is such a wank it make me so angry.

Personally I pray that 100mm of rain falls on London in an hour on the opening ceremony. It would be so good. I pray each night to the Virgin Mary that this will happen and if it does I will reenlist as a Catholic.
